Phylogeographic Approaches to Characterize the Emergence of Plant Pathogens

Phylogeography combines geographic information with phylogenetic and population genomic approaches to infer the evolutionary history of a species or in context. This approach has been instrumental understanding emergence, spread, evolution range plant pathogens. In particular, phylogeography can address questions about where pathogen originated, whether it is native introduced, when how often introductions occurred. We review theory, methods, underpinning phylogeographic inference highlight applications providing novel insights into emergence spread select hope that this will be useful assessing power, pitfalls, opportunities presented by various approaches.
